Embedded Firmware Engineer (Industrial Measurement Systems)

Full-time
Bratislava (hybrid work model)

Job description

Our customer develops precision instruments for semiconductor manufacturing, vacuum measurement, leak detection and HVAC/R applications.

As an Embedded Firmware Engineer, you'll develop low-level firmware in C/C++ for ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers (STM32), working closely with electronics, sensors and hardware teams.

An unexpected measurement can come from the sensor, the electronics, the timing or the firmware. If you enjoy following that trail from code to hardware, this role could suit you. At ERNI, you will work with a customer developing instruments for vacuum measurement, leak detection and process control. Your firmware will connect the physical measurement to the behavior of the instrument.

What you will do:

  • Develop, test and maintain bare-metal firmware in C and C++ for ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers (STM32 and comparable families).

  • Implement and debug communication stacks and drivers: CAN / CANopen, Modbus RTU and TCP, UART / RS-232 / RS-485, I²C, SPI.

  • Write low-level drivers for ADCs, DACs, timers, DMA, PWM and interrupt-driven peripherals that interface with sensors and actuators.

  • Bring up new boards together with hardware engineers: review schematics, take measurements, find the root cause when hardware and software disagree.

  • Take part in electronics design: component selection, schematic review and design-for-test input.

  • Create unit and hardware-in-the-loop tests, write technical documentation and support verification against EMC and safety standards.

  • Analyse field issues together with service and production, and maintain firmware for products already in the market.

  • Work in an interdisciplinary team of physicists, mechanical engineers, electronics engineers, and software engineers from around the world.

What we are looking for:

  • Professional experience developing embedded firmware, with strong C skills and practical experience using C++.

  • Experience working directly with microcontrollers and bare-metal firmware, including peripherals, interrupts and timing constraints.

  • The ability to investigate hardware-software issues using a debugger, schematics and measurement equipment.

  • A disciplined approach to testing, code review and version control.

  • Experience with ARM Cortex-M is particularly relevant. If you have worked with another microcontroller family, explain what you developed and how closely you worked with the hardware.

  • Advanced proficiency in English.

Benefits

  • Interesting projects based on the newest technologies

  • Opportunity for self-improvement and career growth

  • Internal & external software development education and trainings (certifications) covered by ERNI

  • Flexible working time & overtime compensation

  • 5 weeks of vacation

  • 3 sick days

  • Language courses (English, German), fully covered by ERNI

  • Personal budget

  • Referral & relocation bonus

  • Fully covered meal vouchers

  • New office in Einpark in Bratislava

  • Team buildings (Health days, Grill parties, Christmas dinner, ERNI Performance Days – two day education & leisure event, sport events, company breakfast etc.)

  • Occasional business trips to Switzerland

  • Well-established community: Brownbag Sessions, Hike club, Bike club, Climbing club, Board games club, etc.
